Description

Earlier to mid 19th century adaptation of earlier steading
with 20th century conversion of part of E range. U-plan
steading with cattle courts to N rear and 2-storey former
farmhouse at S end of E range, raised from single storey.
Random rubble with ashlar dressings. Ashlar coped
crenellated facades with band course, closing E and W
ranges to S, breaking eaves.
W AND N RANGES: stables and stores, some openings blocked.
Large garage opening at E end of N range by re-entrant
angle.
E RANGE: made residential.
W ELEVATION: former carriage opening to outer left with
French doors, flanked by single window to right. 2
fanlit former doors, glazed as windows left of centre.
3-bay, 2-storey factor's house to S end with ground floor
openings altered and 3 regular 1st floor windows.
Coped, rubble court yard formed by 2-storey bays.
E ELEVATION: 2 single storey, piend roofed projections, at
centre and to outer right, incorporated in residential
accommodation; S projection with pentice roofed porch in
re-entrant angle to S. 3 ground floor windows to 2-storey
house and 2, 1st floor windows to outer bays.
BARN: sited at centre of U-plan court. Gable to S with
machinery doorway and ramp; gablet crowsteps with
consoled skewputts and blind cross in gable head.
Former finial missing.
E AND W ELEVATIONS: with doorway at centre flanked by 2
small openings. Segmentally arched, low openings currently
blocked, flanking to outer ends; cement covering to
rubble platforms adjoining each side and running full
length.
12-pane glazing to sash and case windows, and some
modern windows with plate glass. Pantile roofs with slate
easing courses at intervals. Brick stacks.

Statement of Interest

Formerly known as Collegehead. Row of cottages to W and

walled garden, currently in poor condition to E. Raised

platforms to sides of barns probably serving as mounting

blocks.
