Description

Late 18th century. Inn on a rambling plan, comprised of
4 converted houses along the main street. Main block
of 2-storeys and 3 regular bays, flanked by 2 slightly
recessed blocks, joined at an oblique angle, of 3
irregular bays to left block and 2 equally irregular to
the right; outer right cottage of 2 bays, single storey
with low eaves. Main block rendered and lined as ashlar,
those flanking harled; painted margins; red rubble
sandstone to rear.
Variety of openings and glazing patterns. 2-leaf door to
left bay of main block, and narrower door to left of
flanking block to right. Pend formed in outer right bay
of single storey cottage. 12-pane glazing predominating
at 1st floor, with plate glass at ground. Doorway of
outer left house, blocked as window.
N (REAR) ELEVATION: irregular and altered with single
storey extensions to main and left blocks.
Pantile roofs; harled, mutual gable stacks.
