Description

Earlier 19th century with modern additions Single storey, 3-bay, rectangular-plan cottage, with Tudor detailing; modern addition of outer right and left flanking bays. Red sandstone ashlar with ashlar margins and dressings; modern additions in pink masonry with efflorescence; on falling ground to S, high concrete base. Base course, hoodmoulds; Tudor-arched windows, chamfered reveals; raised cills. Projecting eaves, exposed rafters.

N (MAIN) ELEVATION: 3-bay original cottage with flanking outer bays in sympathetic style. Entrance bay at centre slightly advanced, Tudor-arched entrance, 2-leaf boarded doors, hoodmould; flanking windows, hoodmoulds. Outer flanking bays slightly advanced, Tudor- arched windows, no hoodmoulds.

E ELEVATION: 2-bay modern addition, window to right large; roof carried on cat-slide to left.

S (REAR) ELEVATION: 3-bay; half-piend roofed jamb at centre.

Timber transomed and mullioned casement windows; metal top-hung windows; plate glass picture window. Grey slate roof with lead flashings; shouldered coped octagonal sandstone stacks, decorative octagonal cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1994.

Stuckgowan Cottage was the former lodge to Stuckgowan House, now separated by the A82. Stuckgowan House is listed separately.
