1814. Tall rubble column with corbelled and crenellated
wallhead; surmounted by later bronze statue of a Highlander
(sculptor Greenshields). Battered base with pulvinated string
course and barely projecting corniced entrance porch
serving internal spiral stair. Surrounded by coped 8-sided
rubble wall with 3 later pedimented sections containing
inscriptions in English, Gaelic and Latin.
Erected in 1814 to commemorate the Highlanders who stood
for Prince Charles Edward during 1745 rebellion by Alexander
MacDonald of Glenaladale, who died before completion and to
whom the plaques are also a memorial. Originally
without statute and with small Gothic single bay crenellated
shooting box abutting column.
