Description

Built circa 1774. Row of 3 limekilns, facing north, and set
against steep bank. Squared rubble. 3 segmental-arched
openings at base, with brick fireplaces; brick-lined kilns
with circular openings above.

Statement of Interest

Derelict but still reasonably intact. Closeburn limeworks

founded circa 1774 by Sir James Kirkpatrick; works

operational until circa 1888, though used intermittently

until circa 1895.
