DESCRIPTION: the war memorial stands on a small green alongside and north of the churchyard of St Botolph’s church (Grade I). It comprises a well-carved limestone Calvary. Its shaft rises from a sloping square plinth, set on an octagonal base. The plinth is inscribed 12 o'clock face: REMEMBER WITH/ PRAYER AND GRATITUDE/ (names)/ OF BARTON SEAGRAVE/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1919/ GRANT THEM O LORD THINE ETERNAL PEACE. 6 o'clock face: THIS MEMORIAL IS/ ERECTED BY PUBLIC/ SUBSCRIPTION 3 o'clock face: ALSO THOSE WHO FELL/ IN THE WAR 1939 - 45./ (names)/ GOD SHALL WIPE AWAY ALL TEARS FROM/ THEIR EYES AND THERE SHALL BE NO/ MORE DEATH NEITHER SORROW/ NOR CRYING NEITHER SHALL THERE BE/ ANY MORE PAIN FOR THE FORMER THINGS ARE/ PASSED AWAY/ REVELATION 21.4.

The memorial was presumably erected c.1920 like most English war memorials.
Barton Seagrave War Memorial, on St Botolph’s Road, is listed at Grade II for the following reasons:
* Historic interest: as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on the local community, and the sacrifice it made in the conflicts of the C20;
* Design: a competently executed stone Calvary;
* Group value: with the Grade I-listed church of St Botolph and the Grade II-listed Manor House.
