A village war memorial of c.1920 built of limestone ashlar on a rubble stone base.
PLAN: the memorial takes the form of an obelisk rising from a panelled base with a stepped plinth and square platform. It is set against a grassed bank to the south of Tucker’s Lane.
DESCRIPTION: the north face has a wreath of bay leaves, bound with a ribbon, in high relief to the upper body of the obelisk. The base is tapered and has a central, recessed panel which bears the inscription in countersunk lead letters which reads ‘THE GREAT WAR / 1914-1918 / IN MEMORY OF THE MEN / OF ANSFORD / WHO DIED IN THE / SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY’. Names of the fallen are recorded on similar, shaped panels on the east and west flanks of the base. The base has four steps, the uppermost of which is of ashlar, with rubble stone steps below. This north face has the inscription ‘1939 - 1945’ and names of the fallen from the Second World War.

The aftermath of the First World War saw the biggest single wave of public commemoration ever with tens of thousands of memorials erected across England. One such memorial was Ansford War Memorial. The monument appears to date from c. 1920 and commemorates the fallen from the First World War. It was altered to include the names of those who died in the Second World War.
Ansford War Memorial, is listed at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
* Historic interest: as an eloquent witness to the tragic impacts of world events on this community, and the sacrifices it made in the conflicts of the C20;
* Architectural interest: as an accomplished and well-realised war memorial which takes the simple form of an obelisk;
* Group value: with the church of St Andrew (Grade II*).
