The Upwell War Memorial is made of stone and consists of an angel raised on three steps above a tall, tapered, square pedestal surmounting a stepped plinth and base. The pedestal has a moulded entablature. A union flag and laurel branch are carved on one face with an inscription which reads ' THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED BY THE INHABITANTS TO THE HONOUR AND GLORY OF THE SOLDIERS AND SAILORS OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WARS'. The names of those killed are recorded on the other sides, a total of 67, 57 from the First World War and 10 from the second.

The War Memorial at Upwell is thought to have been carved by a local apprentice stonemason, William Gray, and erected in c. 1922.
Upwell War Memorial, erected c. 1922, is designated at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
* Historical interest: it is a moving reminder of the tragic impact on the community of two World Wars and two later, C20 conflicts, and of the terrible sacrifices made;
* Design: it is also of special interest for its elegant classical design and for the quality of craftsmanship.
