DESCRIPTION:
A milestone erected in 1762 by the Creed, Tregony and St Just Turnpike Trust. Granite. It is rectangular in plan with a semi-circular rounded head, and stands 0.74m high by 0.3m wide. Painted white with black lettering, it is inscribed; St MAWeS/7/TRegONy/3.
HISTORY:
The Creed, Tregony and St Just Turnpike Trust was established by Act of Parliament in 1762. The milestone now stands in a ditch a couple of metres from the present road edge due to the realignment of the A3078 in the late C20. It was re-discovered in 2007 when undergrowth on the verge was cut back.

REASONS FOR DESIGNATION:
The milestone 142m to the east of Beruppa Farm is designated at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
* Earliness of Date: it was erected by one of the earliest turnpike trusts in England in 1762, some 11 years before the passing of the 1773 Act that ordered all turnpike trusts to provide milestones or guide-posts along their roads.
* Intactness: it is intact and stands in its original position
* Historical Association: it is a testament to the development of the turnpike system in Cornwall, particularly to facilitate transportation within a growing industrial landscape.
