Detached house. Late C18, refurbished and extended c1868 (first appearance in Bath Directory as a gentleman's residence).
MATERIALS: Coursed squared white limestone with Bath stone dressings, single Roman tile roof.
PLAN: Single depth house with rear outshut and kitchen wing. Built facing south with its back to road.
EXTERIOR: South (garden) elevation has two storeys, three windows wide, with additional single storey kitchen wing to right. Ground floor has three pane French windows with louvered shutters flanking central four/four-sash, which would have originally been front door before Victorian alterations. Full width glazed veranda on slight iron uprights. Above are three plain sashes. Roof with stone verges and ashlar stack with weathering at either end of ridge. Kitchen extension to right single storey with lean-to roof. Door, paired plain sash, tall kitchen stack. Rear (road) elevation has continuous outshut under catslide roof. Altered and heightened in c1868 when house was upgraded. Single storey with upper floor corridor at top of stairs giving access to upper rooms of main block. Central six-panel door with dressed surround flanked by paired Gothic windows with Caernarfon heads and stone mullion. Roof light for stair head above.
INTERIOR: Very altered decoratively but still retains cast iron range in Tudor arched kitchen fireplace.
HISTORY: Interesting example of farmhouse transformed into minor gentlemen's residence as Bath was pushed out into countryside in mid C19.
