Three terrace houses. 1764-1770 with C19 alterations.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, slate roofs. Generous town houses with double mansard roofs, and entry with staircase to one side.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys with attic and basement, each single bay, windows all sashes, mainly plain, but with horizontal bars. Nos 12 and 13 have each two small dormers, tripartite windows at second and first floors, in splayed surround and with floating cornice at first floor, and paired sash in splay to ground floor, above paired four-pane to basement. To left five-panel door in architrave with flat hood on pilasters with consoles, to right six-panel in hood doorcase on solid cheeks, with impost band. No.14 similar, but with raised plat surround to windows at first and second floors, and six-panel door with fine fanlight in hood doorcase as to No.12. Plinth, platband above first floor, modillion cornice, discontinuous between Nos 13 and 14, blocking course and parapet. Straight joint at each end, and between Nos 13/14, coped party divisions, large shared stack to Nos 11/12, and to right in No.14. Lead downpipe centred to Nos 12/13, whole unit slightly higher than adjoining Nos 10/11 (qv), and with higher profile mansard. To rear No.12 has tripartite glazing bar sashes at each level. No.13 has bold full height canted bay, with single four-pane above twelve-pane at each facet below. No.14 has plain tripartite sash. Moulded strings run full width at each floor, but are stopped to central bay.
INTERIORS: Nos 12 and 13 have very fine cornicing.
HISTORY: The external fabric reveals the staggered building history of the row. The full terrace has broad consistency in detail, but with variations in elevations, building was in small sections, marked by straight joints.
