Terrace house, now shop. Late C18 with altered c1870 shopfront and C20 additions.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front and rear, painted to front, parapeted roof, double Romans to front and rear, has stack rising from rear wall to left, now truncated, external stack, now without pots, added to rear right.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys and basement, two-window range. First floor has to left two/two-horned sash in plain reveal with stone sill, to right similar four/four sash. Ground floor has to left mid/late C19 shopfront with plate glass window to right with moulded panel below and C20 door with overlight to left in surround with three pilaster strips flanking door and window with moulded consoles to moulded cornice, six-panel door with fielded panels approached by three concrete and Pennant steps in plain reveal to ground floor centre. To right plate glass horned sash in plain reveal with stone sill. Basement lit by C20 window with grating and grating in pavement in stall-riser of shopfront. Cast iron grating to opening in plinth to right, small C20 window above plinth to right. Plinth, band course over ground floor to right, moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet. Rear elevation partially visible, no windows to first floor.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
HISTORY: The lease for Nos. 3-5 Gloucester Street is dated 5th March 1768 as the adjacent houses in Rivers Street (qv 16 Rivers Street and passim).
