Three churchyard monuments c 3.5m south of south aisle to Church of St Michael

Three chest tombs. C18 and C19.
MATERIALS: Mainly limestone, but some sandstone panels.
EXTERIOR: (a) Tanner monument, approx 3.5m S of first bay of S aisle. Weathered ledger to moulded edge on fluted frieze over inscribed panels and pilasters with leaf and flower drops, short ends have single panel, and long sides paired panels, all on moulded base. Various inscriptions to members of Tanner family, earliest decipherable date 1823. (b) Broad monument, approx 2.5m S of last, and adjacent to churchyard boundary wall. Weathered ledger with moulded edge above single and paired fielded panels and moulded base. Earliest decipherable date is to Samuel Broad, 1864, but design is of the C18. (c) Pool monument, approx 2.5m SW of Tanner monument. Very thick ledger to cyma-mould edge, over single and paired sunk panels in soft grey sandstone to flat pilasters, and moulded base. Earliest decipherable date is .... Pool, 1850, but ledger probably earlier. This monument in poor condition, with panels to the south collapsing (February 1994).
