Pair of houses. c1820.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, roof unseen, moulded stacks to the party wall.
PLAN: Double depth plan.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys with attics and basements, central three bay pedimented block originally flanked with symmetrical recessed entrance bays. Original block has returned coped parapet that steps up at corners and rises to form pediment at the centre. Attic storey, possibly later, set well back with windows in returns where parapet rises over them. Rich cornice and lintel frieze return and stop at attic windows. Balconettes to six/six-pane sash windows to first floor and eight/eight-pane sashes to ground floor. Painted moulded architraves to first floor windows, windows to party wall are blind with real glazing bars. No.9 to left has set-back, single storey entrance block with parapet and cornice similar to left hand end of main block over wide segmental arched overlight with circular central pane, reeded architrave to double doors with circular panels to centres and painted over margin lights. To rear later two-storey lean-to block. Wrought iron overthrow attached to railings in front of modern glazed canopy to porch. No.10 has mid C19 double depth two storey porch with hipped concrete tile roof, stone bracketed eaves, similar first floor window to main block, moulded archivolts and imposts to semicircular arched opening to front and paired arches and recessed circle under similar arch to right return. Moulded gatepier with railings.
INTERIORS: Not inspected.
HISTORY: Part of this highly characteristic Regency suburban development, showing the influence of the Greek Revival on Bath's domestic architecture.
