House. c1790-1793 with C19 and C20 alterations. By John Palmer.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, Welsh slate double pile parapeted roof, mansard to front, rebuilt as full third floor to rear, with brick stack with early clay pots to front roof, ashlar and rendered stack to rear, on coped party wall to left. Staircase now to front probably originally to rear.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, three-window range. First floor has three C19 plate glass horned sashed in plain reveals with wrought iron balconettes, second floor has three six/six-sashes in plain reveals, ground floor has two C19 plate glass horned sashes in plain reveals with stone sills to left, six-panel door with beaded and raised and fielded panels with single-pane overlight in plain reveal to right, one step to concreted crossover. Basement has one large and one small plate glass horned sashes, ashlar extension with C20 door in area to left, C20 area steps. One double and one single dormer with plate glass sashes. Band course over ground floor forms sill band to first floor windows, sill band to second floor, moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet ramped down from left end. Rear elevation has glazing bar sashes to ground, second and third floors to right, pairs of plate glass horned sashes to left to first, second and third floors, C20 window to ground floor left, first floor right has C20 window in former door sized opening with splayed reveal and evidence of tent roofed verandah.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings and gate with shaped heads on limestone bases.
HISTORY: Part of incomplete St James's Square development on land leased by Fielder, King, Hewlett and Broom from Sir Peter Rivers Gay 25 March 1790; upper part of Park Street commenced to design of John Palmer and continued but not completed to design of John Pinch after 1808, street formerly terminated by All Saints Chapel at top and intended to be continued in a NW direction as Regent Place.
