House, now flats. Completed 1792 with C19 and C20 alterations. By John Palmer, built by John Jenkins.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, rubble to basement, ashlar and rubble to rear. Welsh slate double pile parapeted mansard roof with coped gable wall and two ashlar stacks with early clay pots to left. Staircase to front.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, two-window range. First floor has two C19 plate glass horned sashes in plain reveals with stone sills to left with wrought iron balconette, to right with lowered sill, second floor has two C19 plate glass horned sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, ground floor has one similar window with wrought iron balconette and splayed reveal to left, porch to right has six-panel door with reeded and raised and fielded panels, single glazed upper panel in pedimented Doric doorcase with one pennant step. Porch has plinth and recessed panels to left and right sides, to left with small C19 plate glass horned sash, architrave and cornice of doorcase continue across and to left and right sides of porch, blocking course. Basement has six/six-sash in splayed reveal with stone sill, C20 door and lowered opening in ashlar infilling under crossover, ashlar area steps. Band course over ground floor, frieze, moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet, lead hopperhead and downpipe to right. Rear elevation single bay with three C19 plate glass horned sashes, narrower to left and right, to each of ground, first and second floors, wrought iron verandah with lead roof to first floor, C19 windows to basement, mansard built up to full third floor with two six/six and one plate glass horned sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, further mansard over with double dormer.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings with urn tops on painted bases.
HISTORY: Part of incomplete St James's Square development on land leased by Fielder, King, Hewlett and Broom from Sir Peter - 1659 - Rivers Gay 25 March 1790; lower part of Park Street forms one of the four diagonal approaches to St James's Square . Underlease of messuage to John Jenkins 1 February 1792 for 94 1/2 years from 21 December 1791.
