Detached villa. E1831.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, tile roof.
PLAN: Compact block with double roof and central valley, to bracketed eaves.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys and basement, three windows, plain sashes with louvred shutters, plain casements to basement. Central panelled door with transom light, under shaped tent hood with scalloped edge, and on four stone steps with nosings. Plain pilaster ends return as eaves band. Eaves stack at each end. Left return has twelve-pane sash at first floor, and right return, to Tyning Road plain, large later added wing behind, with large square ridge stack.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
HISTORY: One of a series of villas on the north side of Church Road with fine panoramic views to the south. This house was among the earliest houses of status to be built in this area, hitherto the province of quarry-related workers. SOURCE: Peter Addison, Around Combe Down (1998), 68.
