HISTORY: The milepost was erected by the Ashby de la Zouch to Tutbury Turnpike Trust. It was cast in Burton upon Trent c1828.
REASONS FOR DESIGNATION:
The milepost at NGR SK2161028370 is designated at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
* it is a well-preserved early-C19 milepost in its original location
* it has group value with other listed mileposts on this route
* as a reminder of the standardisation of roads and the introduction of turnpikes which facilitated the transport needs of the increasingly industrial landscape of C18 Staffordshire.
