Threshing barn with attached cartshed. Barn is late C17, cartshed attached to the south west forming an L-wing is C18.
BARN: Timberframed, clad in weatherboarding on a plinth originally sandstone but repaired in the late C20 in brickwork with some reused sandstone. Pegtiled roof, hipped to the west and half-hipped to the east. It measures 40' 4" by 18' 10" and has full-height wagon doors to the north and half-height doors to the south. Internally the wall-frame has a midrail with diagonal tension braces. One upright post is jowled, others have a curved profile. Each side of the wagon entrance are long diagonal braces and horizontal boards either side of the threshing floor. A later floor has been inserted to the eastern bay. The roof structure has tiebeams, collar beams and original rafters. A few of the rafters are reused mediaeval rafters, halved for collars.
CARTSHED: Brick laid in Sussex bond with tiled roof. Three bays, open fronted to the east, supported on wooden piers. The roof structure has tie beams, collar beams, purlins and a ridgepiece to the rafters.
HISTORY: Part of a farm called "The Grove" south east of Robertsbridge which was an example of the trend in the C17 and C18 away from small-holdings and towards farms of an economic size. The original farmhouse which is called "The Grove" is no longer a farmhouse but is listed grade II.
