Maypole House
GV II
House. C14, C16 and late C18 with late C20 restoration. Brick and timber-framed with a hipped plain tiled roof. A brick ridge chimney stack and an external brick stack to right return. Two storey.
Main front has central doorway with moulded and painted door surround with brackets supporting a flat hood. Either side single glazing bar sashes. Above a decorative brick band, and above again two glazing bar sash windows to eaves.
Rear has lean-to additions and a late C20 conservatory.
INTERIOR of rear wing retains C14 timber-framing. This section once formed the two-bay cross-wing of a hall house. The western half of the roof survives along with the central crownpost and tiebeam, unfortunately most of the eastern half was removed when the front was hipped in the late C18. Some posts, parts of the walls and a section of the ceiling with its joists does survive intact, though later decoration makes the exact extent of the survival of this timber-frame difficult to judge precisely. Behind this former cross-wing is a C16 brick range with a large brick stack.
