North Hinton Farm Barn
II
Staddle barn. dated 1798 on a principal rafter to the north east of the cart entrance. Timberframed, clad in weatherboarding with half-hipped slate roof, raised on tooled mushroom-shaped staddle stones, most of which survive although a few were replaced in brick or wood. Seven x three staddle stones, although the interior is divided into three bays.
EXTERIOR: The south end retains two loading doors with pintle hinges. The east side retains the central cart entrance but at time of survey the doors were detached nearby. The west cart entrance was filled-in.
INTERIOR: Although divided into three large bays the end bays have been further divided by tiebeams and queenposts. The wall frame is of good scantling with diagonal tension braces. The upright posts have typical C18 cut profiles. The tie beams either side of the cart entrance have curved tension braces. The roof structure has angled queen struts and through purlins and the rafters have a ridgepiece. The walls are lined with wooden boards to a height of two or three feet.
A good and complete example of a late C18 timberframed staddle barn.
