Large house. Early C18, re-fronted and extended early C19.
MATERIALS: painted render, slate, hipped roof.
PLAN: former central staircase plan of 3 bays now extended on
north and east.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics, with plinth, cornice and
parapet. 3 flat roof dormers. 3 chimneys with corniced heads
and clay pots. Sash windows with glazing bars, recessed in
plain reveals. Entrance front, south, 3-bay window, slightly
projecting section of early house with prostyle Doric porch in
centre, with half-glazed door. 2-bay extension on right. C20
wooden conservatory on left of 6-bays with hipped, glazed
roof.
INTERIOR: dog-leg staircase with wreathed handrail and bobbin
balusters. Decorative plaster ceiling over staircase and
landing, enriched with guilloche ornament. C18 marble
chimneypieces in dining room, sitting room and study.
Chimneypiece in the dining room has console brackets to
moulded cornice, frieze with black marble panels flanking
carved centre panel. Chimneypiece in sitting room has beaded
surround and frieze with paterae corner blocks and plain
mantel shelf. Chimneypiece in study has moulded mantel shelf
and frieze carved with scroll and floral decoration, supported
by 2 pilasters with female heads.
