Terraced house. c1830-50 with later additions and alterations.
Painted stucco over brick; C20 interlocking concrete tiles
replacing slate; curvilinear parapeted gable to left in brick
with brick coping, incorporates stack; wide eaves.
Wrought-iron balustrade to first-floor.
Double-depth plan with hall to right.
EXTERIOR: 2-storeys with basement and attic. 3 first-floor
windows. Stucco detailing includes eaves band with modillions
and brackets to soffit, square recessed panels between each
bracket; corbels to upper-floor window sills; moulded cornice
with plain frieze above entrance. First-floor sashes are 1/1
in plain reveals with sills; recess to right has a French
window with overlight, Tuscan-style column to each reveal
linked by elongated figure-of-eight motif balustrade. Hipped
roof bay to ground-floor left, 1/1 sash with 1/1 sidelights,
2-pane fixed-light to each return. 6 roll-edged stone-steps
with low flanking walls to recessed porch with Tuscan-style
antae; paired replacement part-glazed doors with sidelights
and overlight. Pair of gabled dormers with 4-pane casements.
Very narrow full-height wing set well back to left return has
1/1 sashes and 20 replacement window. The porch has a
polychromatic ceramic tile floor that continues into the hall.
INTERIOR: noted as retaining some original plaster cornices
and joinery details including 4-panel doors; staircase has
slender turned balusters and wreathed handrail.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Nos 1-10 (consecutive) Rainbow Hill Terrace
(qqv) form a good group of listed buildings comparing well
with other developments of this period in Worcester such as
Britannia Square, Lansdowne Crescent, and Lark Hill (qqv).
