Warehouse, now shop. c1850 with later additions and
alterations including shop front c1980's. Pinkish-brown brick
in Flemish bond with stone sills and ashlar rustication to
ground floor; the brick facade has colourwashed bands;
concealed roof. 4 storeys, 2 first-floor windows with further
loading bay to each floor. Ground floor: to left part a
rusticated plinth and broad, rusticated pilasters to either
side. Traditional-style glazed shop front incorporates
part-glazed door and overlight with fascia. To right a
carriage entrance with cambered arch and keystone. Windows:
first and second floors have 8/8 sashes, third floor has 4/8
sashes, all in plain reveals and with sills and flat arches of
gauged brick. Pitching doors (to right bay, above carriage
arch): all plank doors in diminishing heights; all in plain
reveals and with flat arches of gauged brick, except to third
floor a timber lintel; all with hinged platforms. Hoist
mounting to upper stage. Continuous 2-course eaves band. Coped
parapet. Right return retains elliptically-arched openings, 3
to ground and first floors, then two to upper floors, all with
mainly 2-light casement windows.
INTERIOR: the ground floor has been gutted. Otherwise not
inspected.
A good example of a mid C19 warehouse, adjacent to the Corn
Exchange (qv) with which it is probably contemporary.
