Bank. 1864 with minor C20 alterations. For Gee, Wise and Gee.
Stucco with slate roof.
EXTERIOR: 3-storey, 5-bay front with parapet having heavy
modillion cornice and small dentil cornice. Ground floor in
channelled rustication, deep moulded sill band to 1st floor,
dentilled cornice between 1st and 2nd floor, 2nd floor has
angle quoins. To ground floor, doorway to left has
round-arched head with shield-bearing keystone, carved console
brackets support dentilled cornice with decorative cast-iron
guard to 1st floor windows. Engaged granite colonnettes to
spandrels with foliated capitals. Panelled door with fanlight.
To right 4 semicircular headed windows with female mask
keystones. To 1st floor 5 semicircular headed windows with
keystones and moulded heads joined by a string at impost
height. Recessed panels between windows. To 2nd floor 5 plain
sashes with segmental heads, moulded surrounds and ramped
bases.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORY: the banking company of Gee, Wise and Gee failed 10
years after the building was completed and the bank was taken
over by the Lincoln and Lindsay Bank.
