GV II*

House. Probably C16 in origin, but extensively remodelled in
C19. Largely roughly coursed and squared stone raised and
extended in brick, and incorporating at least one cruck truss
(visible in gable wall). Heavy slate roof.
EXTERIOR AND PLAN: 2 storeys, 3-window range, representing
original building with 2-unit plan, extended to the west by
the addition of a further single unit. Doorway towards centre
of original building; all windows renewed. Stacks on end walls
of original building.
INTERIOR: not included.
HISTORY: the house is believed to be the oldest inhabited
house in Bolton, but the source of this tradition is not
known.
