Public house and shop. Reputed to have been rebuilt in 1636,
though the present building owes much of its form to an early
C20 remodelling. Mock timber over a genuine timber frame
partially visible to rear, with slate roof.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 4-window range, with gabled wings to each
side and central main range. Full height canted bay windows in
right-hand gable; a canted oriel window in left hand gable
with doorway alongside and 2-light mullioned and transomed
window above. Central range has round-arched doorway to right,
and doorway with 3-light window under continuous fascia to
left. Segmentally arched entry to yard to left. Two 2-light
casement windows above. Applied framing and leaded windows all
apparently date from early C20 remodelling, although the
doorway, and the small shop front with door and window in the
central range appear to be early C19; the canted bay windows
in the right-hand gable also pre-date the remodelling.
Ornamental heads to rainwater goods. Side wall stack in
right-hand wing, axial stack to left.
INTERIOR: retains elements of an early plan with a division
into small rooms, and there is some fitted bar furniture.
