Terrace of 6 houses, now houses and shops. Numbered right to
left, described left to right. c1840-50, with later
alterations. Stucco over brick with concealed roofs and brick
and stucco stacks. Double-depth plan with right side
stairhalls and service ranges to rear.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 12 first-floor windows (2 per house).
Stucco detailings includes plinth, horizontal rustication to
ground floor, drawn into voussoirs over cambered entrances;
first-floor band. 3 houses at right have crowning moulded
string, frieze and moulded cornice (missing at left);
continuous blocking course and copings. First floor has 6/6
sashes, all in plain reveals and with sills. Ground floor: end
and off-centre right houses have tripartite sashes with 2/2
horizontal-pane, and 6/6 between 2/2 sashes; otherwise late
C20 glazed shop fronts. Entrances at right: steps to 4-panel
part-glazed and 6-flush-and-fielded-panel doors in moulded
surrounds where original, with overlights with glazing bars.
INTERIOR: retains original joinery and plasterwork including
dogleg staircases with stick balusters and wreathed handrails,
some mahogany newels.
Forms a group with Parish Centre for St Philip and St James,
Suffolk Square (qv), close to other C19 properties in Suffolk
Parade.
