Terrace of 6 houses and attached area railings to Nos 49, 51
and 53 and end walls and piers. Numbered right to left,
described left to right. c1820-50. Stucco over brick with
slate roof and brick and stucco party-wall stacks; ashlar
walls (stuccoed at left) and iron railings and window boxes.
PLAN: a symmetrical design with breakforwards to 2nd, 6th and
7th, and 11th window bays, pedimented to centre; double-depth
with side halls and service ranges to rear.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basements with attics to rear, 12
first-floor windows (2 per house). Entablature with pediment
to central breakforward. Ionic pilasters to ends of
breakforwards with pair to centre. Stucco detailing includes
rustication to ground floor drawn into voussoirs over windows.
6/6 sashes where original, those to ground floor have cambered
heads, to first floor the centre 4 and left 2 are tall; all in
plain reveals and with sills; several retain blind boxes.
Basement has 5/10 and 10/10 sashes where original. Flights of
roll-edged steps to 3 left and 3 right entrances: recessed
4-panel, part-glazed doors with sidelights, except to No. 51
are 4-panel double doors, all with overlights. Rear retains
several 6/6 and 8/8 sashes; first-floor canted bay to No.57
has 6/6 between 2/2 sashes.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: arrowhead area railings and to sides of
steps with spearhead finials to stanchions. Ornate window
boxes to Nos 51 and 57. Walls to ends are ramped downwards to
end piers, octagonal on plan with plinths and peaked cap at
right (missing to left).
