House, now offices, with attached walls and piers and area
railings. c1816 with later additions and alterations including
mid-C20 upper storeys to end ranges; C20 gates between piers.
Ashlar over brick with slate roof, hipped to centre part; iron
railings and ashlar forecourt walls.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys on basement, with 1:2:1 first-floor
windows. The central 2-window range breaks forward. First- and
second-floor bands to main range; side ranges have, to ground
floor, 2 Doric columns in antis with frieze and cornice; band
over first-floor window; the outer ranges have breakforwards
to windows. 6/6 and 3/6 sashes, those to ground floor of main
range in chamfered recesses. Entrances between columns to each
end range: 6-fielded-panel doors, that to right part glazed,
between 4/4 sashes. Wide eaves to centre.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area railings to main range with urn
finials to stanchions. Forecourt walls abut at right for
approx 15m with piers and gates between and further wall for
approx 3m; wall approx 1.5m high and coped.
HISTORICAL NOTE: presumably built as a house for the Countess
of Huntingdon's chaplain at Portland Chapel, now Chapel Rock
Gym, North Place (qv), which it abuts to rear.
