CLOSE Marske.
Walls enclosing garden in front of Marske Hall (qv). C17 and
C18 with C19 balustrade. Coursed squared stone with ashlar
dressings and cast-iron balustrade.
Wall approx 1.5-2.5m high runs from left return of Marske
Hall, returns through long curve along west side of garden to
street, turns to run along street front and returns along east
side of garden along Hall Close. Roll-moulded gabled coping to
stone wall along east and wast sides of garden higher along
east with flat stone lintel over boarded door; stepped coped
wide buttresses on Hall Close side. South section interrupted
by rusticated gate piers near west, with renewed flat stone
coping, and long late C19 balustrade of cast-iron in imitation
of turned stone, with intermediate stone piers, set on low
wall and supporting flat stone coping.
