Pair of semi-detached villas, now flats, and attached area
railings. c1820-32 with later additions and alterations
including late C19 bay to right. Stucco over brick with hipped
slate roof (artificial slate at left), brick and stucco end
and party-wall stacks; reddish-brown brick walls with stone
copings, iron railings, gates and overthrow, and balcony.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basement, 7 first-floor windows (5:2)
with single-storey entrance bay and further single bay to
right. Centre bay to left house set back. Stucco detailing
includes pilasters through ground and first floors with
incised Greek key motifs to ends and between houses, with
similar pilasters to first floor above to either side of
central window of left house, pilasters interrupt first-floor
band, frieze, except to centre of left house. Similar pilaster
strips to range to far right. 6/6 sashes throughout, taller to
ground floor except to far right a tripartite window with 2/2
narrow sashes with margin-lights and decorative 'Gothic'
glazing to heads, several retaining blind boxes. Entrances: to
centre of left house a Doric porch with 2 pairs of columns,
architrave, frieze with triglyphs and metopes, cornice and
blocking course; within a 5-panel door with fluting to lower
panels with sidelights, and overlight with margin-lights. To
right, flight of roll-edged steps to off-centre entrance a
6-fielded-panel door with sidelights and cambered overlight
with batwing and circle glazing bars. Basement has 10/10
sashes. Rear retains 6/6 sashes, No.19 has round-arched
staircase sash.
INTERIOR: retain original features including plasterwork and
marble floor to hall, and joinery including tooled architraves
with cornices to doors. Otherwise not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: ground-floor balcony to rear of No.19 has
scrolled lozenge motif, and with scrolled lozenges to area
railings.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Park Place was developed by 1832.
Forms a group with Walls, railings, gates and lamp-overthrow
to No.19, Park Place (qv).
