SHAWBURY
MORETON MILL
Bridge 50 metres East of Moreton Mill

II

Road bridge and sluices spanning the River Roden. 1759-61 and mid C19. Late C20 alterations and additions. Red brick with ashlar dressings. Triple-arched bridge with smaller central round arch flanked by larger segmental arches, all with keystones on the downstream side. Parapet wall on downstream side with chamfered ashlar coping, repaired 1999. On the upstream side, wooden guides and iron fittings for five sluices. A brick parapet was built on this side in 1999, supplementing a tubular railing carried on C19 cast iron bollards.

The bridge forms part of an important water powered ironworking site, and is a major ancillary to it.
