Terrace of 3 villas, with attached railings to No.1 and
attached area railings to Nos 2 and 3. Numbered right to left,
described left to right. c1826-50. Stucco over brick with
slate roof and end and party-wall stuccoed stacks; iron
railings. L-shaped on plan, with Nos 2 and 3 to left return.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basement, 5 first-floor windows (2:3),
with return of 2 storeys on basement, 6 first-floor windows
(3:3). Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to
ground floor drawn into voussoirs over wide, segmental-arched
plain recesses for windows which have sills and panelled
aprons, and with wide channelled pilasters and voussoirs to
door; first-floor windows have tooled architraves; moulded
first-floor band surmounted by pairs of Doric pilasters to
ends and between windows, surmounted by architrave, frieze and
dentil cornice with blocking course and copings. 6/6 sashes
throughout, those to ground floor have margin-lights; blind
boxes to No.1; 8/8 and 10/10 sashes to basement. Central
entrance to No.1 (below 4th window), flight of 6 renewed
roll-edged steps to recessed 4-panel part-glazed door with
overlights with lozenge glazing bars with margin-lights.
Similar facade to left return; stepped between 3rd and 4th
windows; stucco detailing as for front facade. Similar central
entrances (below 2nd and 4th windows); flights of roll-edged
steps to 3-panel, part-glazed doors.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: stick railings to sides of steps to No.1.
Arrowhead area railings have bars and dogbars; rod and central
bobbin to railings to sides of steps and wreathed handrail.
HISTORICAL NOTE: shown on Merrett's Map of 1834 although No.3
is not complete; adjacent houses are known to have been built
in 1826: Nos 1-4 Oriel Terrace, Oriel Road (qv).
