Building society. c1900-20. Portland stone and granite. Roof
concealed. Baroque style.
3 storeys, 5 bays. Polished granite ground floor articulated
by horizontal rusticated piers. To left and to right is an
8-panelled door with flanking banded pilasters, heavy brackets
support cornice and bowed stone parapet. At centre are 3 large
recessed casements, frieze and cornice run across. First floor
has 5 recessed sashes with architrave and keystone; alternate
scrolled open and triangular pediments, set within heavy
horizontal banded rustication with egg-and-dart band at window
heads. On second floor outer bays only are rusticated with
flanking Doric pilasters, centre bay has flanking Doric
attached columns; 5 sashes, centre 3 are each framed by Doric
columns, frieze and cornice; outer sashes each set in Gibbs
surround with keystone and cornice. Entablature with modillion
cornice and parapet with balusters divided by piers.
