Tomb to Thomas Champion, d.1896. Probably designed by WH
Knight. Polychrome masonry in High Victorian Gothic style.
Stone canopied tomb with squat columns in polished granite,
leaf capitals, and polychrome voussoirs. Arches of long sides
have scallop and leaf enrichment to roll moulds. Crocketed
gables. Corner statues of the 4 Evangelists on column
pedestals (3 missing). Wide table tomb with lobed enrichment.
The finest monument in this cemetery.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the competition for the cemetery was won by
Knight in 1862.
