Terrace of houses in planned square. c1815 by John Foulston.
Incised stucco with sill bands; dry slate roofs with
projecting eaves; stuccoed stacks over the cross walls.
Double-depth plan.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; overall originally a symmetrical group
with the centre bays and the end bays broken forward and
surmounted by triangular pediments, the pediment to right now
a half pediment since the demolition of No.13 following damage
in the Blitz. Otherwise the houses are in pairs divided to
centre of pediment with blind central openings; overall
1:3:2:3:2:1 bays. Nos 9 and 10 have most of their original
hornless sashes with glazing bars; Nos 8 and 12 have later
horned sashes and No.11 has inappropriate C20 windows. Ground
floor has round-arched openings with moulded arches and impost
string; spoked fanlights to Nos 9 and 10 and 8-panel doors,
others with plain fanlights and later panelled doors or C20
doors.
INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be of interest.
Part of a rare virtually complete planned group by Foulston.
