Unequal pair of villas in planned group of villas. Mid-late
C19. Stucco with stucco detail; steep asbestos slate roofs
behind parapets with moulded entablature and with 2 coped
front gables to cross wings, right of centre and on the right;
stuccoed lateral stacks surmounted by diagonally-set shafts.
Simple Tudor Gothic style. Overall L-shaped irregular
double-depth plan.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys (No.20, left) and 2 storeys over basement;
articulated 5-bay front with 1 window to 1st floor of each bay
and to 2nd floor of No.20 (2 bays). No.20 has
slightly-projecting bay on the left with pilastered canted bay
window with moulded entablature to ground floor; narrow
entrance bay with 4-centred arched doorway of 2 orders and
panelled door, and projecting cross wing on the right, flush
with the front of No.21 and with window to each floor of its
left-hand return. Late C19 or C20 horned sashes without
glazing bars to left-hand bays of No.20; possibly original
2-light transomed mullioned windows with 4-centred arched top
lights to right-hand bay of No.20 and to right-hand bay of
No.21. The narrow entrance bay of No.21 has parapet over
single-light 1st-floor window and 4-centred arched doorway
with panelled and partly-glazed door set back. All the
openings have square hoodmoulds and there is a string above
the 1st-floor windows.
INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be of interest.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: rubble side garden walls linked to low
front wall with square gate-piers with squat pyramidal caps.
Part of a good group of mid C19 villas.
