Merchant's house. Early C17. Render on timber frame and
rubble; Steep dry slate roof with eaves projecting over
oriels. Double-depth plan including C20 additions at the rear.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; 2nd floor with C17 oak canted oriel with
moulded frame at left and right and a wide horizontal-sliding
sash filling the space between, all with glazing bars; the 1st
floor with similar but much wider oriel with 6 lights with
moulded mullions with small-paned casements; moulded cornice
and hipped slate roof above. The 3 oriel windows are carried
on shaped and carved brackets under the splays plus a central
bracket under the 1st-floor window. Ground floor has canted
shop window with glazing bars and hipped roof on the left; the
panelled door and moulded frame on the right are copied from
the C17 originals which are in the Museum.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
A fine early C17 merchant's house, particularly notable for
the fenestration to the facade which defines the principal
living areas on the upper floors. Part of a significant group
of C17 and C18 houses.
