Mark Addy Memorial in Weaste
Cemetery

GV II

Memorial to Mark Addy. 1890. Polished granite. Obelisk carried
on stepped base, with incised decoration and medallion on the
obelisk. Inscription on the base records how Addy "saved more
than fifty persons from drowning in the River Irwell for which
he received amongst other rewards the Albert medal (first
class) from the Queen." The monument was erected by public
subscription.
