Public house. 1879. Red brick with stone dressings and Welsh
slate roof in conical form with roof glazing and twin
spirelets. Gothic style. Semicircular plan on corner site.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic. Elevation to Bloom Street has
6-window range of round-headed sash windows to first floor
with linked stone mouldings forming 4-centred arches over
them, and stone sills linked by string course. Ground floor
similar but with coursed rubble and blue brick plinth;
entrance bay has round-headed doorway flanked by short banded
granite columns with stiff leaf capitals; drip mould with
scroll stops, marble 'King's Arms' in mosaic in spandrels,
triple window above. Above this, decorative brickwork frieze
and stone balconette with wrought ironwork carried on
machicolations to triple arched-headed attic windows. Stone
coped gable shaped around a richly carved Royal Arms. Further
doorway on curved corner now blocked. Window with balconette
above, and gable with 'King's Arms' in mosaic. 3-window return
to Sackville Street, with central door and gabled dormer over.
Variegated roof line with tall stacks and 5 gabled dormers in
alternate bays separated by bracketed cornice with plain
parapet. Long glazed and leaded lantern in roof providing top
lighting to attic room.
