Lamp post at junction of New Road
and Park Terrace

GV II

Lamp standard. Probably 1879. Lamp standard cast-iron on a
stone base. Free Baroque style. Lamp standard on square
section pedestal with sunk panels, 4 gables and an octagonal
base to the standard. Standard, stamped Geo. Smith and Co.,
Sun Foundry, Glasgow. Standard has heavy S-shaped scrolled
brackets; anthemion decoration and a scrolly ladder rest.
Tapering cylindrical lamp with conical finial.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Rock Park was opened in 1879. It was laid out
by RD Gould.
