Pair of houses, now with shops. Early C19. Rendered solid
walls, probably of brick. Slated roofs, hipped at left side.
Red brick chimney on left side wall. 3 storeys. 4-window
range. Ground floor of No.16 is rusticated. 6-panelled house
door to left with fanlight having intersecting, diagonally-set
glazing bars. Late C20 display window to right; 1988 list
description refers to double doors in this position, the top
panels open with bars matching the fanlight of house door. No.
17 has late C20 shop front, although a strip of rusticated
walling survives at right-hand end. Upper storeys have sash
windows in recessed box-frames; all but the 2nd storey sashes
at No.17 have 6 panes each. Wooden eaves cornice. These houses
are part of a group including Nos 18, 19 & 20 (qqv).
