Description

TIVERTON

SS91SW LONGDRAG HILL
848-1/4/30 Ditchetts Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse, 2 houses under one roof. C17 or earlier. Rendered
cob walls with some brick re-facing; dry slate roof; brick
stack and another towards rear towards right. 4-room plan,
with presumed parlour on the left, then the hall with passage
position on its right, then the original lower end, now a
2-room plan, which was probably extended c1700.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; overall 6-window range, the higher end a
3-window range with central doorway and the lower end similar
but with the openings set lower; gabled porch in front of
lower end.
INTERIOR: has been little altered and retains much of its
original fabric including: floor structures with C17 chamfered
and stopped crossbeams to the hall and boxed in crossbeam to
the presumed parlour; simple chamfered crossbeams to the room
right of the passage and a c1700 winder stair, with octagonal
newel, between the lower end rooms in front of the stack. Roof
structure not inspected except to note the boxed-in feet of
probable original trusses bearing on the wall tops in the
bedrooms.
There is a simple late C19 boarded partition between the hall
and the parlour and most of the wall and ceiling surfaces
retain old plasterwork.
