Description

KEYNSHAM

ST6568 BATH HILL
739-1/4/8 (West side)
19/06/75 Nos.56-74 (Even)

GV II

Row of 10 cottages. Early C19 with late C20 alterations.
Render or lined-out stucco to limestone rubble walls, pantile
roofs and rendered ridge brick stacks.
EXTERIOR: each cottage is a 2-storey; 1-window range, stepped
uphill with double-depth plans. Original cottage facade
comprised two 12-pane sashes in plain reveals to left-hand and
doorway to right with pilasters, bracketed flat hood and
6-panel doors. Nos 66, 70 and 72 are as built; the rest have
late C20 alterations including refenestration and the removal
of render. Rear facades have single window to first floor,
mostly with late C20 fenestration, and ground-floor lean-to
outshuts.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
A good example of a pre-1840 artisan row known locally as
'Tenhouses'.
