Estate office when surveyed; Probably late C18 or early C19, remodelled in
1896 (dated over doorway). Red brick with freestone and
terracotta dressings; sides and rear of coursed squared
sandstone; slate roof. Double-depth double-fronted plan with
back extension. Domestic style with Baroque features.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and 3 bays, symmetrical; with plain
pilasters to both floors, string course over ground floor,
moulded cornice and balustraded parapet over 2nd floor,
steeply-pitched semi-conical roofs over the outer bays with
finials. The centre has an elliptical-arched doorway with
moulded and banded head, frieze lettered "WESTWOOD / ESTATE
OFFICE", and heavy panelled divided doors, framed by an
elaborate renaissance-style architrave with 2 free-standing
columns, moulded cornice and upstand with swan-neck supporters
and lettered plaque including shield and monogram flanked by
date "18" "96"; and at 1st floor a sashed window framed by
simple pilasters. The outer bays have 2-storey canted bay
windows with sashed glazing, those at ground floor with
enrichment similar to that of the doorway. Side-wall chimneys.
The estate office was unoccupied at the time of the survey
(August 1992).
INTERIOR not inspected.
Included for group value with former Town Hall (King Street,
qv).
