House. Mid C18 with C20 alterations and extensions. Coursed
millstone grit with tooled ashlar dressings, stone slate roofs
and 2 stone end stacks with watertabling.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Front has irregular 2 window range.
Off-centre C20 door in square headed surround, flanked by
single window to left and single smaller window to right both
in ashlar surrounds with C20 casements. Above a single former
3-light mullion window, with mullions removed, and to right a
narrow window, both in ashlar surrounds with C20 casements.
Left return to street has 2 blind gables.
Right return obscured by single storey extensions.
Rear elevation has single window to each floor, originally
3-light, now with mullions removed. Remaining elevation not
visible.
INTERIOR: has been much altered, the beams to kitchen are
reputed to have supported flag floor of first floor bedroom.
The second bedroom reputedly had a timber floor. Stairs moved
from original position.
This house was once owned by Sir John Wood, local
industrialist, who rented it to his workers.
