GV II

Bank barn. Probably early to mid C18. Coursed blue ragstone
rubble with some sandstone, partly in graduated courses, with
sandstone quoins, stone slate roof. L-plan formed by 7-bay
main range on north-west/south-east axis with short 3-bay west
wing linking to east gable of house; shippon under the first 5
bays of the main range.
EXTERIOR: the south front, formed by this wing and the
slightly higher gable of the main range to the right, has
through-stones on 3 levels (4 to the gabled portion), a small
porch abutting the house to the left, 3 small windows to the
right of this, a loading doorway above the 3rd of these, a
square-headed shippon doorway in the centre of the gabled
portion, 2 rows of regularly-disposed slit breathers
alternating with square holes, 2 stone slate bands in the
gable and a row of 4 pigeon holes over the upper of these. The
right-hand (north) side wall of the main range, with
through-stones on 2 levels, a stone slate drip-course above,
and slit breathers on 3 levels, has a row of 6 small 1-light
windows to the shippon, and a segmental-headed wagon doorway
to the 6th bay, with rubble voussoirs. Rear: lean-to porch and
cart-shed attached to portion adjoining house, low lean-to
porch to wagon doorway opposed to the other.
INTERIOR: stone threshing floor between wagon doorways; raised
wooden floor over shippon; C18 collar-trussed roof to main
range; large C19 truss at junction with side wing, which abuts
gable wall of house (with corbelled chimney).
Forms group with Hollin Hill Farmhouse (qv).
