Description

CLEOBURY MORTIMER

SO6775 CHURCH STREET
582-1/13/51 (North side)
15/03/74 Churchyard wall 18 metres south-west
of Church of St Mary

GV II

Wall. Mid C19, with C20 repairs on earlier alignment. Coursed
stone rubble with ashlar coping. Wall, mostly retaining, runs
to the south of the churchyard along the boundary of Church
Street from the broad stone church entrance steps westwards to
the gatepier at the west end the churchyard, contemporary with
the adjacent Assembly Rooms (qv). Inset in wall is C12 or C13
stone panel with defaced carved figure, probably a
shiela-na-gig.
Wall was mostly rebuilt on its present alignment as a result
of the widening of Church Street c1845.
