Houses and stable, now single house. Early/mid C18 with
possibly earlier origins, in 3 stages of build, and with later
additions and alterations. Timber-framed, some small frames
exposed to south end and to rear, with reddish-brown brick in
irregular bond and gabled plain-tile roofs.
EXTERIOR: single-storey with attics; 3 first-floor windows.
Outshut to rear. Ground floor, from left: plank door, casement
window, plank door, 2 casement windows, plank door under
gabled hood, casement window under elliptical arch, plank door
under elliptical arch, casement under elliptical arch, fire
window, casement under elliptical arch; all casements are C20,
in wood frames and have glazing bars. Modillion cornice to
northern (right) section. 3 gabled dormers have casements.
Off-centre left and right ridge stacks, that to right was
formerly a massive end stack, encased by later build.
INTERIOR: chamfered beams remain to most ceilings. 2 inglenook
fireplaces with bressumer beams, both have winder staircases
adjoining. Plank doors with original wrought-iron latches.
Huge tension brace to rear at left. Close-studded partition
walls to attic. Wall plate remains throughout. Tie beams and
purlins are exposed in places.
HISTORY: first mentioned in accounts in 1753 as the parson's
stable.
Forms a group with Old Church of St Mary (qv).
